ABOUT COACH TUBERVILLE

"A great champion and man of courage"
– President Donald Trump
Tommy Tuberville, a lifelong leader both on and off the field, was born in Camden, Arkansas, the youngest of three children to Olive and Charles Tuberville. Inspired by his father—a decorated World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient—Coach Tuberville has dedicated much of his life to serving others, especially the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.
A former standout athlete at Harmony Grove High School, Tuberville went on to attend Southern Arkansas University, where he majored in Education and lettered in football as a free safety for the Muleriders. He also competed for two years on the university’s golf team.
Tuberville began his coaching career at Hermitage High School in Arkansas, quickly working his way up through the college coaching ranks. In the 1980s, he served as an assistant coach at Arkansas State and then at the University of Miami, where he became defensive coordinator. During his time with the Hurricanes, the program won three national championships and produced future legends, including Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
He later served as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M before being named head coach at the University of Mississippi in 1995. In 1997, he was named SEC Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.
In 1998, Tuberville became head coach of the Auburn Tigers, launching one of the most successful eras in the school’s football history. Under his leadership, Auburn achieved eight consecutive bowl appearances, five SEC Western Division titles, one SEC Championship, and an undefeated 13-0 season in 2004. That year, Tuberville earned numerous national coaching honors, including AP Coach of the Year and the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award. He was later inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.

Tuberville continued his coaching success at Texas Tech University and the University of Cincinnati, where his teams consistently competed in bowl games and earned a conference championship.
After the 2016 season, Tuberville retired from coaching as one of the top 50 winningest college football coaches of all time. He joined ESPN as a full-time analyst, sharing the broadcast desk with legendary commentator Mike Patrick.
In 2020, Tuberville was elected to the United States Senate from Alabama, running as a proud member of the America First movement. As a United States Senator, he has been a strong advocate for conservative values and is a vocal supporter of President Trump’s America First agenda. Coach Tuberville currently serves on the following Senate committees: Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; Armed Services; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Veterans’ Affairs; and Aging. He is also the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Personnel and the Subcommittee on Education and the American Family.
Tommy and his wife Suzanne, whom he met at the 1989 Sugar Bowl, were married in 1991. They have two sons—Tucker is an investment banker and lives in Auburn with his wife, Annie, and daughter, Rosie Grace, and Troy works in information systems and lives in Huntsville.
